As I sit here at my desk and daydream about spring at the homestead, I thought it would be the perfect time to share upcoming plans at the general store.

Cleaning out the store has been so much fun and at the same time, it’s been a TON of work. I absolutely love finding ephemera. The odd document stamped 1906. The newspaper from 1941. The old western magazine. The receipt for apples bought in 1915. It’s all there, untouched and unbothered, aside from the unlucky few pieces that hungry moths chose to nibble on.

I’ve done my very best to parse through each and every item I find, ensuring nothing of value gets tossed. I know most people appreciate that as much as I do. It’s fun to scour the store shelves, pondering each item, figuring out what the items are, how they were used, and when each item was used last. It’s a mystery that we can only attempt to solve.

But as spring approaches, I’m realizing just how many projects need attention while the weather is on my side. With big plans for the homestead, each season has to be maximized to keep progress moving and make the most of the time I have. If I want to work outdoors (and I do — think chicken coop, fence, clearing land, greenhouse, tiny house, exterior stairs…), I will need to make the most of this spring and summer, which means indoor cleanout needs to wrap up before then.
